Ok, before I am able to share the question I was asked the other day I have to first explain how it came up :).
I had written this article about “Affiliate Network Marketing Programs and Which Ones To Promote” and I posted it at Digg.com so my network marketing friends there can give me some thumbs up.
Then I wrote a Twitter Update that said - “Which network marketing affiliate to promote?— http://tinyurl.com/47kt67” and the link was leading to the Digg bookmark of my blog post instead of the blog post itself. (Read the actual tweet here: http://twitter.com/DiyanaAlcheva/statuses/934949904)
**************************************************
So here is the question by my Twitter friend @sherwinraavi
“@DiyanaAlcheva hey, what’s the value of promoting the digg link and not the blog link on twitter?”
***********************************************************************************
Ok so here is the deal.
The real reason why I posted the Digg bookmark of the article instead of the arti
cle link itself is because I want leverage. I want to leverage more places than just my blog that can show up on the search engines for the keywords I want to rank for.
What do I mean by this?
When Google lists my blog link or even the article link itself it will list it once or maybe twice at the most on one page in a case that I was able to achieve a double listing. But it’s definite that Google would not show my site for all 10 searches on the page. That, however; doesn’t mean that all of the 10 results on one Google’s page can’t be leading to content that is mine.
So then my goal is to have many different sources that distribute my content and where people can find me.
To achieve this I use bookmarking sites as part of the sites that could lead to my content. These bookmarking sites with my bookmarked articles could be a part of the 10 results on the Google page, together with my blog and other sites of mine.
With a little research I have found that sites like Digg, Propeller or Technorati and others get really good and fast results on the search engines. So when you bookmark your blog post at one or all of these locations there is a chance that the page with the bookmark of your post will show up on the search engines.
Now this is not your blog link, but it is still a link to the bookmarking location with your article link on it. So you could be dominating the search results for your target keywords with all these different sites, showing up.
So to directly answer your question – I have a network of friends on Digg.com and when I send a link to my bookmark of my blog post, my friends and Twitter would not only go and read the article but first they can Digg it with some thumbs up. More Diggs makes a better chance for this bookmark to show as a result on the search engine. And now if I was to Bookmark the Digg bookmark itself that will give it even a higher chance of coming up.
Hope this makes sense.
So by posting my Digg link to my blog post’s bookmark on Twitter I leverage my Twitter audience who can become friend with me on Digg, give me a Digg Thumb Up and then that is also traffic directly to my blog.
Ultimately you want to refer your Twitter friends and friends from all of your Social Networking locations to not only the Digg Bookmark of your article but also to the article links itself and any other places that might be linking to your article.
And that is what I call LEVERAGE!
