The 3 Advantages that Owning Your Domain Name will Bring to Your Business
Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 12:54PM If you are looking for an easy and cheap way to increase your professionalism and that of your business than buying Your Own Domain Name is a must.
The reason why you really need to consider buying your domain name is because in today’s marketing world entrepreneurs have to be constantly selling themselves. Even in the old way of Network Marketing the product or our business opportunity had always come in second place no matter how wonderful it is. What comes first is — YOU. That means that before you are perceived as an expert and you are seen as someone who can be trusted your prospect will take no action .
Your prospects are constantly shopping for a better upline or product; your prospects want to work with leaders and experts in the field; your prospects are attracted to the successful guys.
If you are not successful yet don’t get scared away. This is where a small step like purchasing a domain name plays a big role in establishing trust and professionalism.
Three reasons why you want to own your domain name are:
- Self-branding - Promoting Yourself as an Expert and a Leader
- Tracking you Advertising Results
- Making sure your prospects end up in the right place and you don’t lose business
Fact: Having a domain name is not going to necessarily do as much for your business as what not having one will do to You and your business. Owning your domain name is something that is expected in today’s Internet Marketing world, and not having it will simply hurt your business.
Tip: Take this process seriously. Choosing a domain name is not a joke if you take it that way you are going to achieve no more than what 95% of network marketers achieve – which is failure.
Why should you consider to own a Domain Name:
I mentioned Self-Branding.
Let me make one very obvious comparison by taking two very different types of e-mail addresses.
#1 is cutegirl79509@aol.com and #2 is Didi@MarketingMerge.com.
Let’s say that I send an e-mail to my newest prospect that I have from both of these addresses.
I really do not have to keep talking here much more about this. It is very obvious what kind of brand name I put on my forehead using the #1 e-mail address and using #2 e-mail address.
What would my prospect’s impression be if they saw some what of a serious marketing subject e-mail coming to their e-mail box but from cutegirl79509@aol.com? Well, if I was my prospect I would right away send it to my junk folder.
What #1 e-mail projects is an image of a 13 year old girl and it does not even come close to anything like “successful entrepreneur, CEO, a six figure incomer or a leader” and even if I was really successfull I wouldn’t be taken seriously.
But let’s get #2 Didi@MarketingMerge.com.Would that create a different feeling? Absolutely! My prospect now may actually consider reading the e-mail. And it is not necessarily so much that this e-mail address will give such a great positive impression, but even if it was just neutral I would be scoring higher in the eyes of my prospect than using the previous or similar to it example.
So you can kind of get the point of Self Branding and what owning your website name rather than using what your company provides for you or an affiliate program will do for you.
And as the example above may have already spoken to you with owning your domain name you get to have your personal e-mail too and not any of the familiar third party providers like Yahoo, Gmail, Aol, Hotmail, etc. Using one of these would never allow you enough flexibility as to putting your first name only in front, because it has been taken a long time ago. But by owning your own e-mail domain you can now get anything like Support@MarketingMerge.com, Info@MarketingMerge.com, Didi@MarketingMerge.com, CEO@MarketingMerge.com, etc. You get the point!
The other advantage of owning your domain name is that helps you in your Tracking. When you own a domain name you can now redirect or forward it to any web address you choose.
So let’s say you had your regular website that your Network Marketing Company provides for you. Usually it is something like http://www.YourCompanyName.com/YourUsername. Or maybe you have an affiliate link which ends up to be something similar to the above, like http://www.support.therenegadenetworkmarketer.com (an actual affiliate link).
To really make the point, here is one more example where I have used a special tracking tool provided by the affiliate program so I can always know where my results are coming from. For this purpose I just add an extension to my regular affiliate link just like this http://www.support.therenegadenetworkmarketer.com/aec1.html (this is an actual tracking link I have created to track my results with an e-mail campaign I had created).
By owning my domain name now I can choose any of the above and redirect or forward them to my www.marketingmerge.com. How sweet, short, easy to pronounce and remember it is. So when someone goes to www.marketingmerge.com they actually end up in http://www.support.therenegadenetworkmarketer.com/ aec1.html if that’s the link I have chosen to redirect my domain name to and I can still track my results.
But the convenience it brings with it is not the main point. Imagine I had to give those long web addresses over the phone or a conference call; it is 99% certain that people will misspell it or leave parts of it out. When you give someone a site that has any extra data they usually delete it to see where the main part of the address would take them, which would be the main company site or the main affiliate program sales page which would result in enormous amount of losses for you.
So buying and redirecting your domain name will really make sure your prospects end up in the right place and you don’t lose business.
One of the most famous places you can get a domain name is www.GoDaddy.com . It would usually cost you about $9 a year and hosting for your e-mail would be around $4.
